What is a Wardmote?
The Saxon term Wardmote refers to a meeting of the ward held to announce the candidates of an election. The Wardmote provided the electorate with an opportunity to ask the candidates questions and also for the candidates to address the electors present. The City of London's unique electoral system which pre-dates Parliament still holds annual ‘Wardmotes’ to hear news but we are elected for 4 year terms.
If you would like to see the ceremony of the Wardmote and hear the ward news we’d be delighted to see you at noon in St. Olave’s Church.
