Finance Dinner

Tomorrow we have a ‘fiscal event’ in the UK when the national Government announce their spending plans, and whilst Defence and Health are expected  to receive increased budgets, local government is not.

Tonight was an opportunity to talk to London Government colleagues about the challenges we face and to to engage with Prof Tony Travers who had great insight into population growth, decline on public spending and the importance of growth.

Essentially without growth of the whole economy there is no easy way to increase public spending.  It’s the one good thing from the past 2 years, all politicians now speak of growth even if they don’t have policies to promote it.  Only with understanding of what impacts investment and growth can we improve society, so I hope everyone gets smarter about supporting businesses to grow, because without the jobs and taxes they generate we are all the poorer.
