Today the Court of Common Council of the City of London voted on an updated statement of principles under the Gambling Act 2005, which as chairman of licensing I introduced.  These come into force in January 2025.

The updated Statement of Licensing Principles follows a public consultation and review of the local area profile. The City of London paid close attention to those most vulnerable . This is then reflected in the policy with procedures in place to help protect people.

Whilst we had feedback regarding on-line gambling activities, this is not mentioned within the policy as it is outside the remit of a local authority and is enforced by the Gambling Commission.

I’m delighted the principles were agreed today, and I hope 2025 is a successful year for everyone in licensed businesses.
