Smithfield Market is the largest wholesale meat market in the UK and one of the largest in Europe. There has been a livestock market on the site for over 800 years, I’ve had the pleasure working it the market for over 16 years and today I was delighted to hear the optimism in the words of the traders association about the plans for New Smithfield and the prospects for creating new real world jobs. I hope London enjoys quality meat markets for another 800 years and I’m truly delighted that my long held ambition for a Food School to train tomorrows caterers, butchers and fishmongers is back on the agenda.
